His Wings, the Airport

the contours of the departure lounge
brag themselves in crap corduroy colours
and wish upon us anonymity
this is no place to mark the remaining moments
you fidget in the jacket you quickly bought
when the rain turned cold and we didn't know one another
standing next to one another under the market stall tarp
as the gutters swell
here we are at the airport
with just a couple of names and numbers
our lives laid out like the cargo bays before us
so we kiss
hungry and we're done
and the pain is instant and numb
how could we
you and me
and the logic of the universe
and texting, it's uncertain, but I can the hear the catch in your breath
and i can feel the unpracticed tension in your hands and in your face
and I know it's love
in one of its character actors
his wings his wings his wings
folded and unfolded and beat the air out of me
here we are at the airport
with just a couple of names and numbers
our lives laid out like the cargo bays before us
so we kiss
hungry and we're done
and the pain is instant and numb

...ah...uhm
if i run, and i always do
to catch the very last into the city
if i run, and i always do
to catch the very last train
in the city
you found the burial
you make the arrangements
then you loved as time passed
then a few pauses on the neural trigger
and you're face to face with what you never intended.
god knows when i'll be back
the red shoes, cinderella on the rag
pub crawls party favors small drugs
small flights of stairs like that
and foremost in our minds is, why?
mum can't see you if you have eyes
and you are so firmly notting hill gate
when she arrives
she arrives late
behind a curtain of hair and skin
thin like emulsion or swedish film
waiting on stitches
life like a witches
words that crease from a lovely raccoon grin
you found the burial
you make the arrangements
then you loved as time passed
then a few pauses on the neural trigger
and you're face to face with what you never intended.
